"Love Makes The World - Deluxe Edition" is Released
LOS ANGELES, CA - The Deluxe Edition of 2001's Love Makes the World was the first in a series of expanded reissues released on Rockingale Records, the legendary singer/songwriter's own label, this one just in time for Mother's Day.
The new 2-CD version of Love Makes the World has over 40 minutes of added material, including five bonus tracks. "Where You Lead, I Will Follow," a duet with daughter Louise Goffin and the theme from Gilmore Girls; this version appears on a King recording for the first time. "Lo Que Tú Eres Para Mí," with Alejandro Lerner and "Two Hearts," with Graham Nash are both previously unreleased. King's modern-day standards "Birthday Song" and "Love for Christmas" fill out the collection to 17 songs. The Deluxe Edition also boasts a behind-the-scenes video featurette on the making of the album, an in-depth interview with the artist and music videos for the title track and "Safe Again."
The dozen original tracks on Love Makes the World feature a diverse assemblage of guest artists, who intertwine their respective styles with King's own unmistakable sound. "Every time I thought of a guest artist who would be perfect for one song or another, everything just kind of fell into place," she said at the time of the original album. Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds brings his distinctive pop/soul songcraft and vocals to "You Can Do Anything," while k.d. lang and Carole trade vocal lines on "An Uncommon Love." Celine Dion reprises "The Reason," which appeared on her 1997 multi-platinum album Let's Talk About Love, in tandem with King, its co-writer. The title song (which was featured in a TV campaign for The Gap) resulted from a collaboration with breakbeat-house production duo PopRox. Wynton Marsalis plays a trumpet solo on "I Wasn’t Gonna Fall in Love," and producer David Foster brings his lush sound to "It Could Have Been Anyone." Additionally, the album contains a reworking of Goffin and King's "Oh No Not My Baby," a hit for Maxine Brown in the '60s, and again for Rod Stewart in 1973.
"I particularly enjoyed writing and recording this album because I got to explore styles and influences from rock to hip-hop to the intimate and personal, using instruments ranging from classical to contemporary," said King in 2001. A review in the L.A. Times noted that Love Makes The World "evokes her signature clean, lush sound while being contemporary enough to remind us that big, romantic pop can express genuine feeling."
