Carole King Performs at Swearing-In for Speaker Pelosi
WASHINGTON DC - History was made when the 110th Congress convened as Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was sworn in as the first female to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. The actual ceremony which took place in the Gallery, was followed later in the evening with a swearing-in celebration, held at the National Building Museum.
Carole King spoke and performed at the event, which was also scheduled to include speeches from Richard Gere, Joe Pantoliano and Amy Brenneman. Additional performers for the evening included Wyclef Jean and Tony Bennett, as well as "The House Band," which included Bruce Hornsby, Mike Gordon (Phish), Warren Haynes (Government Mule), and several ex-members of the Grateful Dead (Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart).
